Peugeot 106 Problems

My 106 has developed a problem, when attempting to start the car when the engine is cold it often just cuts out after a few seconds, once this happens it can take 5 - 20 attempts to get it going again. At idle the engine appears to run quit...

AS above, When turning the car left of right there is a lound knocking noise. I don't think this is down to CV joints as the noise does not occur when going round a corner with the clutch down. Not too sure what this could be?

Have noticed that when ignition is on or car is running and the sidelights are switched off when I press the brake pedal the sidelights also come on and go off when I release the pedal, Any ideas?
