What problems can be caused by a faulty Fan Belt?

Belt slipping or squeaking noise from engine

There is a loud squeaking noise coming from the engine area. As the engine speed increases the frequency of the noise changes / increases.

High pitched buzzing sound from engine area

It sounds like a continuous high pitched buzz or squeak from the engine area whilst the engine is running. Increasing engine speed will cause the pitch of the sound to change.
