Starts and cuts out

when I start my ZR it fires up then cuts out straight away. it only does this when starting from cold and it takes a few attemps to get it to fire. when it does i have to give it some throttle. once the revs have gone over 2000rpm it will i...

my son has an mgzr 1.8 and what happens is when he starts the car it revs high then after around 15seconds it revs higher then dies.any help would be grateful as i have lost patients
