Volkswagen Polo Engine Oil Problems

Can someone please advise of which engine oil I need for V Polo 1.4 petol year 2000. I have been advised from one place that it is 15w40 (halfords) and another that it is 5w30 (Millers Oils) Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks
