Coolant level

i have just completed a 200 mile journey,when i got back there was not water in the expansion tank,the temperature gauge didnt really move on the journey.is it the thermostat thats faulty?

Yellow cream under oil filler cap

i keep getting what looks like yellow cream and water under the oil filler cap, the coolant level stays the same and the car isn't overheating so i dont think its the head gasket, could it just be condensation and is there a cure for it?
