Vauxhall Zafira Battery Problems

only just today the engine managment light came on and the car wont run right, the revs are up and down it keeps cutting out when i stop and when i try to restart it, it takes longer than normal, any help!!!

took it the car garage as was surging revs and they said it was due to the battery volts running down too low then caused a fault which triggered the egr into fault?? any help..

Out of the blue car never started as usual. Put key in ignition, dash lights came on went to start and key felt loose and did not start engine. Dash lights remained on when taking key out. Disconnected battery to get dash lights off.
