2012 Vauxhall Meriva found 1" of water in my boot. cannot find where it is coming from !

Removed spare wheel to find 1" of water slopping about. Nothing else seems wet and I wondered where it may have come from.
Would removing one of the metal plugs in the floor of the boot help drainage and avoid this build up in future ?

Could knock a small hole and let it drain rather than remove . Quite a common fault ,see here
