2006 Peugeot 307 starter motor no crank when engine warm or hot

Car: Peugeot 307
Year: 2006
Variant: 307 cc Sport 2.0 Diesel
Starter motor works fine in normal circumstances but no crank after a run. The system seems to have to cool down for a while before restarting. The RAC traced the problem to a 20A fuse but replacing this is a short term solution. This fuse does not blow. An auto engineer wants to replace the starter motor but I don't see it as solving the problem. Could it be a cable problem from the starter to the fuse box

If the auto engineer suspects the starter , he may well be right . It could well be faulty

The replacement starter motor comes to nearly £400 and so I I suppose I'm looking for cheaper remedies. I've looked on-line and found remedies which were not the starter motor itself but power problems coming from the cable motor to fuse box, i just don't want to buy a new starter motor only to find the same problem. The engineer may be right. But so may the guys on google who diagnosed a cable malfunction. I trust the garage but £400 is a lot of trust. Anyone had this problem before
