Yes I am referring to the hazard warning lights

Can on guess it may be related to a low fob battery or your car battery is low in voltage and may need charging or replaced as it causes weird symptoms on the electrics if so

Thanks for your suggestion but I do not have the remote key for the car, only the manual key which has has been OK for many years

Try spraying WD40 into door lock / key slot and working it in , may be the mechanism sticking slightly and triggering the lights

I have now retrieved the remote control from the other user of the car and everything now works perfectly, so we shall now have to share the same key. Many thanks for the various suggestions, which led to the above solution.
