2006 Vauxhall Zafira exhaust emission light on, engine shaking and loss of power

Hi there,
The other day I went to start my car and the ignition went but didn't start I tried again and nothing - no sound nothing... I thought the battery had gone or a fuse... I tried again after 5 minutes and it worked!
However, the exhaust emissions warning light came one and the engine was shaking (almost like spitting) and sounded more like a diesel!
It also lost power significantly and would not accelerate like it used to and when I reached 30mph and put increade acceleration the light started flashing and it still does every time I put my foot on the accelerator after 30 mph. If i let go it goes back to the light without flashing.
i'm quite concerned mostly becuase of the sound and shaking of the engine and also the loss of power...
What could be the problem and is it easy to fix and how much would it be to fix?????
Is it safe for the engine for me to continue to drive it??

Wouldnt use it personally, you need to get the fault checked with a diagnostic scanner, it sounds like its in los mode, Limited operation Strategy mode.
Coil packs are a common fault but it could be anything, needs checking.
