2001 Vauxhall Astra Problems

Time belt snapped and I was asked to change the whole engine. Is it possible to have damaged the whole engine because it snapped

the part number for my diesel injection pump is 0470504015. the part numbered 0470504011 looks identical and I'm told this pump would also do the job but I'm not sure are the electronics different? or differently coded for the brain ...
