When I drive off it has high revs and goes in to limp mode I have a slight gearbox oil leak wondered if it was low on oil

If low on oil it certainly wont help but on car of that year may well be wear internally

You would be better getting it scanned for fault codes or better still , get it roadtested / checked by any local auto transmission specialist first to assess and estimate cost .
