2004 Citroen C3 car cut out, engine warning light on

Car lost power then stopped, wouldn't turn over or restart. Green Flag attended, stated either crankshaft sensor problem or timing belt sensor. Got it booked into a garage, but wondering if problem might be more serious. Car doesn't start, makes shrieking sound if ignition attempted

If crank sensor faulty the engine will turn over but not start , no idea what the timing belt sensor is he mentioned .Really hard to advise without checking the car , check you have coolant and engine oil o.k , Noise could be the starter , a belt / tensioner , low battery but so many possible causes .
