2004 Vauxhall Zafira ecu

Car: Vauxhall Zafira

hi, can anyone give me some advice on ECU problem/s! car developed a fault where i could not rev up the engine, test on the car came up as ECU fault. i contacted a well known company who said they can repair it. ( quiet expensive too ) sent it off, had it back and still no improvement. so sent it back again. came back and same thing, no improvement. i have confirmation from an RAC approved garage that it is the ECU. apart from having to get it tested and postage costs it"s becoming expensive, a nightmare. thanks.

If the "reputable" repair company tested it and passed it twice I'd consider the initial diagnosis as incorrect,
Now as far as I know the ECU repairers can't re-create every operating environment of a working ECU but the capacity to rev WOULD be a testable system.
And to be up front I have had a couple of ECU's tested and returned as fully functioning.
Which of course forced me to swallow the costs.
But also made me recheck my diagnosis process.
Resulting in both cases of faults that I had missed first time around.
What can I say,
I screwed up'
Careful, logical, process threw up the faults in both instances.
From then I have a new moto,
DON'T JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS!!
And from Vauxhall experience the first thing I'd check is for a blocked or collapsed catalytic converter.
Accept the ECU isn't faulty and retest everything.
Carefully this time.

thanks for reply. wouldn"t a rusted old cat-converter sound like a tin full of marbles!! instantly noticeable. nothing like that going on here. there has not been any warning lights on all through this problem. another thing, tree diagnostic checks, by tree diif people. two came up ECU and the other being throttle body. thanks again.

Cat could be partially blocked and you wont get any rattles .Could also check the ECU wiring loom and for bad earths or corroded connectors .

thanks for your"e replies. i/4drive was focusing in on the cat/con. but i haven"t forgotten yet, that, when i sent my ECU in for repair, it was the repairers that rang me to tell me that, they received the part and it is faulty and that it is repairable. they also said it is bad, but it is not the worst they have seen.!!! so now i am asking myself, would the cat/con knock out the ECU!!! or could the ECU knock out the cat/con. thanks all. stay tuned.

hi. an update as to the car problem. car been in garage a few days. well looked over and there"s no doubt at all that it is the ECU at fault. so what happens now!!! it"s been sent in for repair twice ( can it go again? )will let you know. thanks.

I can only refer you to my previous answer.
I had an ECU in twice for testing at a firm I had used in the past,
and will again.
Plugged it in to find/not find battery voltage missing from several key circuits,
So accepting the repairers diagnoses I hunted down to the fuse/relay box.
Inside I discovered the voltage loss point which was cleaned/rebuilt and fitted for it to start on the key with no mil.
Now I knew what my fault was,
No battery voltage on key,
testable circuits.
You state the car will not rev,
Not really any use that.
Various signals must be sent/received for the engine to rev,
starting with the throttle pedal sensor,
The car must know that you want to increase rev's.
AFM/MAP/VACUUM......
All combine to signal the ECU to increase injection pulse width.
these signals I would test,
And to go back to my previous response none of this means sh*t if the cat is blocked and the engine cant exhaust gases!!
Now either your garage or your ECU repairer is right or wrong.
Live scanner data will either show a change in throttle pedal position or not..

hi. Back with good news, decided to get a replacement ECU from ECUS TO GO. the car is now going like new. I contacted them well known repairers (who are quite prepared to leave you up the creek) for my money back, but no reply from them, ( they gone shy on me) so will let the bank sort them out. thanks all.

HI people. Having a problem understanding what the dickens is happening here. After 3 months got call from ( well known ECU repair comp.) They just realized i have asked for refund of money for bad repairs. Then they say they can only refund me if i send them my ECU back, because it is not mine. They said my ECU was not repairable so they binned it and sent me a different one ( and that as we know was not working )????????????

Did you pay for the repairs to the ecu via credit card? If so, the card company are held responsible along with the repair company. Get o to them to gwt your money back under section 75.
