1999 Vauxhall Zafira dipped beam bulbs blowing and battery not holding charge - linked?

Over the past week the battery has shown signs of draining when starting engine and this seems to have coinsided with a blown dipped beam bulb, was warned that the car had an unknown problem that caused the bulbs to blow irregularly when purchasing the car. Only noticed blown bulb when finding battery dead, had to jump start, now not holding charge.
