1999 Vauxhall Vectra engine cutting out and rev counter waving

every now and then as i am driving my engine cuts out the rev couter starts waving around the power steering goes off and I am able to restart my engine whilst driving which makes the engine light on the dashboard come on and then I am able to carry on driving I have had a garage fix my car up to a diagnostic and it doesn't come up with anything and when the mechanic has took it out everything seems fine i have changed spark plugs i have heard this is a common fault with vetra's but i just need to know what to fix or is my car due for the scrap heap?

Could possibly be either the Crank Sensor or the Cam sensor though you would have thought it would have shown a code on scan . Might be worthwhile cleaning throttle body also .

check your throttle position sensor isnt playing up
