2003 Vauxhall Vectra noisey engine, low power, cant get over 30 or 40 mph, engine gets hot

Car: Vauxhall Vectra
Year: 2003
Variant: 2.0 DTI diesel
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Had a problem on way home tonight, engine starts to sputter and feels as if it is running out of petrol, but the engine still runs on. The tappets have gone very loud and there is only little power on pressing the accelerator pedal. Engine was getting hot too and cant get over about 30mph.

Sound familiar to anyone?

thanks

sounds like possible head gasket problems...
could account for the loss in power, suspect oil consumption for noise.. get it to a garage to confirm early or could prove costly otherwise...

Hi, that is/was the same problem i had. if, when it starts playing up, you pull up and take out of gear, does it still make the noise? i took it to three places? had new head gasket, spark plugs, had the presure checked. even had a new clutch fitted ( was on way out). Me, i let the car go in the red alot, so started using REDEX cleaner. it has made the car alot better. now and then it will do it, but not as bad and after about five min, will kick back in. oh, also had a new coil pack fitted. Check to see if you pins are firing. i guess yours will have 2 and 3 out. let me know
