2004 Vauxhall Meriva engine noise

I think they recommend a 0W-30 fully synthetic engine oil for that car , was that what you used ? Dependant on mileage , might be general wear on engine , oil pump / bearings etc .A few complaints on this before , i.e rom another forum ,

i have had two vehicles in with same complaint, one was 2005 meriva 1.7 cdti and one a 2006 1.7 cdti both complaining of deisel noise more prominant when cold, i put the first one to dealer as at the time it was still under warranty and we were told nothing wrong and it is just the kind of them, that was approx one year ago and no ill effects have been noticed since , the second one i advised to keep going as it was normal and she has not had any problems since either, as you say it is a horrible noise more akin to a diesel timing issue the harsh "crack" you used to get when they were too far advanced, obviously i cannot say if it is the same noise as yours but might help put your mind at rest anyway
