2017 Vauxhall Insignia multiple electrical issues

Car: Vauxhall Insignia

Has anyone else had this issue. Vauxhall can’t fit us in for a month!
Started out of the blue, went to drive car and electronic handbrake wouldn’t release. Then we re started car, got it into drive and moved the car, but all the lights on the gearbox were off.

Warnings came up like: headlights faulty, auto wipers faulty etc.

Breakdown found code stating transmission control module not communicating.

On drive to the garage, central locking was going haywire and locking and unlocking.

Display told me to open rear windows. Close windows. Basically throwing out random messages.

Car then was driven to garage who said voltage on battery was low and replaced battery. Drove okay a few miles home.

Next day, on outside lane of motorway, car activated emergency braking on a clear lane! Scared the hell out of us!

Towed home. No warnings on dash.

Drove to garage again with no warnings.

Auto electricians can’t seem to locate the issue! But it’s now a safety issue as well as I can’t have the car braking randomly on the motorway. But they’ve advised that they aren’t sure what else they can do. They’ve checked the fuses, connections etc and can’t seem to see anything wrong. But the TCM still says no communication and can’t be cleared as a fault code.

Due to see Vauxhall in a few weeks

Has anyone got any idea!? It surely isn’t old enough for major issues!

Would a TCM fault cause all this?? Or are we looking at a major instrument cluster fault?

Some have suggested a software update may solve the issues but would it be this simple?!

Any suggestions welcome :)

Thanks

Load test alternator to check charging rate and check new battery voltage after lying overnight , prior to starting . If not those , Vauxhall scanner software should check all circuits / modules and retrieve fault codes

My Insignia B, 2017 Insignia SRI Turbo Grand Sport, firstly the radio wouldn't save different stations, having to update and telling me there was quite a few but only one would work. Then me and the wife was setting off to see our grandkids when power died, started up again and just as quick died. Pressed start button and the ticking noise from the engine but sounding ten times as fast. stopped the noise, waited a few minutes and got it to turn over and put into reverse and parked on the drive. Brake down guy came along, got it to fire up after half hour and ticked over for about 20 seconds and that your lot, so he loaded on to his wagon and took it to the garage in Hull and it's been three weeks now.

Sorry, meant to post a reply!!!

So 4 garages, 3 of which were autoelectricians, a new battery and many ‘ooooh get rid of it, the cars f’d’ comments from people, we got to the bottom of it! Thankfully, by the time we got the car back, and found the v5 to try and sell it, it was the day before the Vauxhall appointment so we put it in and paid the diagnostic on the off chance. And thank goodness we did! . Not 40 minutes after they had the car, we had a call to say they had found a severed wire in the central wiring loom and so when they wiggled it, the car did a lot of very very odd electronics and threw out loads of warnings!

So they repaired the wire, and resolved the issue, and so far…. Touching a lot of wood…. It’s solved the problem and we are nearly 6 months in .

The suspicious person in me wonders if this is a common issue as vauxhall found the broken wire straight away and 3 auto electrical garages didn’t…. But. We will never know. I’m grateful they located the issue and it was a relatively simple fix.

We had a new battery as one said the voltage was low so I guess I’ll never know if it needed a battery or not but it has a new one anyway!

We’ve decided now in future to just stick to the main dealerships. We could have waited the month and not paid anyone… instead we tried to get a resolution faster and paid 4 garages diagnostic fees and a new battery for no reason 😂 it’s got its service next week and so you bet it’s going to Vauxhall!
