2015 Vauxhall Insignia ignition key wont release

Fitted new battery to my insignia automatic, now have intermittent fault with ignition key wont release. can turn off engine but wont turn to next stage to release. Have to turn ignition back on and put into drive then back to park several times before key will release. old battery was 75ah. New battery is 80ah

Could be ignition switch but being an automatic and from what you say . more likely to be wear and tear on gear lever mechanism . They changed it with a superseded part number because there was a problem with the mechanism / inhibitor switch .
