When I pull up and put my foot on the brake and keep the car in drive, and then I release the the foot brake I get a thump as if I am rammed up the rear, But when I put the car into neutral and then into drive I NEVER get a thump

Could try changing automatic transmission fluid , often helps .

I Tried that when it first happened and it did not work still had the same problem

Need scanning for fault codes with appropriate scanner then
