2009 Vauxhall Insignia insignia not starting up! dash board lights flashing and engine not turning up

Car: Vauxhall Insignia
Year: 2009
Variant: 2.0 CDTi SE ( 160HP) 5dr
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi guys, I just bought 2009 Vauxhall Insignia few days back and was trying to check all the car settings and personalisations. So I had the car ignition key turned on for quite some time but didnt start the engine.

After connecting my iphone via bluetooth and setting up other few options, I all of sudden saw the immobilizer indication alarm on the display. I then tried to start up the car but no luck. The engine made a sound, and then all of a sudden all the lights started flashing on the dash board, reading lights, hazard light etc. I briefly saw a some mention of BATTERY issue on the display but it disappeared quickly.

I have given it quite few tries but the car just is refusing to start up. There is a whizzing noise when I turn the key on, but the engine is not starting at all. I have tried depressing the clutch and the brakes and also used another key to start but its not starting at all!

Any help or suggestions will be welcome. :) Is this an immobiliser issue? Battery issue? or something else? I will try charging the battery in the morning using jump leads. Sorry I am not very knowledgable when it comes to car, so easy explanations would be so much appreciated :/

Thanks so much.

sounds like your battery has run down you could use jump leads to start car but i would advise that you trickle charge battery back to full strength and would also recomend having a test done on battery as if original one it will be about 4 years old also a check on alternator charge rate would be a good idea

If its turning over and not starting it's most likely the crank shaft sensor. It happened on my Astra a few year ago but if its just dead and not turning over its most likely a battery issue.

Thanks a lot guys! As you guys expected - it indeed was the battery which went dead. Charged it using jump lead but as roverman suggested, I will get the battery tested as I can see some liquid deposit surrounding the battery terminal.

Thanks again for the quick response!
