Starting problems

2012 Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 diesel 160hp Elite manual
Car: Vauxhall Insignia
Year: 2012
Variant: 2.0 diesel 160hp Elite manual
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
On several occasions my car won't start. Can be from cold but is mostly when warmed up. Once I stalled at a junction. The engine refused to re-start for about ten minutes. Another time I had been parked for about three hours and I had to try 6 times before engine would turn. Also once after driving a very long distance I pulled into a click-and -collect grocery service in a supermarket car park, switched off the engine, loaded the car ,got back in and it would not start. Took about six attempts. I have waited for the engine check light to go out but this changes nothing. I turn the key there is a brief noise as if its going to fire up and then it just dies. Its out of the blue,i can go days or sometimes weeks without the problem and then it just happens again. Can anyone help?

Is the car not still under warranty if 2012?
Answered May 7, 2013 (10 years ago)
Yes it is still under warranty, but given the reports of other insignia owners and the problems they have with their cars in and out of the dealership, I would rather, if someone else has had the problem, explain to the dealer what the problem is so they can sort it. The only other report I have found of the same problem was a Belgian Opel Insignia and the guy keeps taking his car back to the dealer. I'd rather avoid that.

If you believe you have a problem you must allow the dealership to check out and investigate under the warranty .If you interfere or alter anything on the car you may invalidate the warranty .Having run a Vauxhall dealership service dept amongst others , I can assure you someone coming in and telling you that they had checked up, were told , heard that this is the fault is not appreciated by the staff .They do not need unqualified customers telling them how to fix cars and you could find yourself leaving faster than you came in if taking this attitude .If , after checking and testing there is no fault found not a lot can be done .I have had occasions when the owner was at fault not the car .Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction .

well 'unqualified' is subjective. Ive seen many a question asked online where 'qualified people don't have the answers and in my experience many garages don't either. Time and again I read of people going back and forth to the dealers who suddenly find the solution just when the car is out of warranty. I had the same problem with a Ford in France. Ford UK told me what the problem was. I told Ford France. I didn't say that I had consulted Ford UK I just said I knew what it was and asked them to sort it. After two years of to and from the dealer finally found the problem (what I had said it was) with the car 2 weeks out of warranty. I don't want to spend my life going back and forward to a so called 'qualified' person. I don't care about making friends with Vauxhall and if more people had the necessary to stand up to dealers who cant cope with a customer asking them to do such and such, Vauxhall and dealers in general wouldn't have such a bad reputation. The JD Power survey and the Auto express customer power survey prove im right. The simple fact that this site exists proves that so-called 'qualified' people and so-called 'experts' aren't that effective. If they were this site would not exist.
I did not intend to do the work myself. I was hoping there might be an expert online or someone who has had the same problem who could say what it is to save me time. There is nothing at all wrong with that and nothing wrong with going to a dealer and saying "ive got a problem with the....""Can you fix it?" If a dealer cant cope with a customer saying that then he doesn't need to show me the door, i'lll find it myself cos that isn't a dealer a want touching my car. So please don't be concerned about my relationship with Vauxhall.I can handle myself. However if you know a 'qualified' person or 'expert' that might know what the problem is then that's all I need to know.
