2009 Vauxhall Insignia info display stays turned off even with ignition on

hi all. a bit of an intermittent fault. the info display which is also the sat nav screen etc sometimes stays balck(off) when the ignition is turned on from being off.
it can be turned back on by pressing the button to turn nav or audio on etc.
its completely black and not the idle screen which displays the time temp amd vauxhalla logo etc.
any ideas??

You say it will still turn on with the button but not ignition?
Most the time things that come on with the ignition are run of a remote wire, this send a small constant electrical feed to say that ignition is on.
In my experience it could be 1 of 4 things, one :loose or bad connection of the remote wire. two: faulty ignition 3: faulty head unit(or amp or what ever uses the remote wire) or 4: bad earth.
I would borrow some ones amp and see if it turns on with ignition once connected to power and earthed and remote wire fitted.
If it works then i would say it either bad earth or faulty unit. hope this helps
