Vibrating noise from passenger side Door / Dash

2012 Vauxhall Insignia 1.8 exclusiv Manual
Car: Vauxhall Insignia
Year: 2012
Variant: 1.8 exclusiv Manual
Categories: Leaks & Noises
My car is 3 Days out of the Showroom and I have noticed a vibrating / resonating noise that appears to come from passenger side door / dash area. There is nothing in the door well or glovebox that could be causing it. I've had the problem in other 2nd hand vauxhalls but never pushed it as cars were second hand but for god's sake this is just out the wrapper and its driving me nuts. Some folk might not bother its not a deafening noise but I think a brand new car shouldnt have anything to report after 3 days. I'm going to leave it for a week and if not its going back. Anyone else any ideas.

I think I may have fixed my problem. After reading a ton of post online about vibrating / resonating in numerous cars not necessarily the insignia. I was tempted to check the air filter. On looking at the filter it didn't look as if the filter housing had been correctly screwed down as I could see the actual filter at one side. I loosed the filter box screws and ensured it then closed flush. I also tightened the screws on the air filter pipe outlets. Seems to have cured the problem the noise was driving me crazy. Have still booked it into dealership for a week today. If sound doesn't come back before then I'll cancel appointment at dealership. Hope this might point others in the same direction for same problem. The resonating / vibration sounded if it came from passenger door and convinced me something was loose inside door panel but seems not.. .

The problem of resonating / vibration re appeared before my appointment with the dealer. Took it in this morning (01/05/2012). Thankfully the noise didn't go away when the mechanics took it out. They identified a loose fuse box and housing in the passenger side glove compartment. They tightened up the fixing and housing and since driving it away from dealer so far so good.

The saga continues. Within half an hour of leaving the dealership the noise started again. Yet again I took the car back to the dealer. This time they had the car for two days 7/05 and 8th. They tried to give me it back at 5pm on 07/05 saying they couldnt hear the noise desipite two test drives. This on top of the fact the mechanic came out with me on the morning of the 07/05 and clearly heard it. I told them I didnb't want it back they needed to keep it hear the noise and fix it. They kept the car into 08/05 heard the noise stripped the door panel and roof lining and tightened everything up. Picked the car up at 5pm on 08/05 and you've guessed it 30 mins out of dealership and noise started again. Amittedley not as loud but still enough to make you think you are driving with tinitus. About to take the car back tomorrow yet again however I think I have actually found the problem myself. Whilst driving and the vibration resonating is happening if I press the housing mount in the roof for the driver and passengers lighting firmly and hold it presed down the vibration / resonating stops its like turning a switch of and on. Have tried it several times and the noise stops the minute I press the housing. i will take my findings to the dealer tomorrow hopefully finally sorted. Apologies to all for the long chain but I think it better to post as much as possible to help others. I know how frustrating it is looking for a needle in a haystack.

At last solution found. As confirmed in post above. I went back to dealership today 10/05/2012 they listened to what I said about Front roof light compartment being source of noise. They removed the panel cover and I drove the rest of the day with it removed noise was gonew. I returned to dealer and they packed new lining into the the housing and replaced tight fitting cover panel. Problem finally resolved. Though frustrating the dealership really did try their best so not gonna get too out my pram about it. It was a very simple issue that took alot of process of elimination. Still love the car.
