2004 Vauxhall Corsa not firing on starting for 10-12 seconds

Car: Vauxhall Corsa
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.0
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi all,

My corsa won't start sometimes (sometimes it does first time). It will take 10-12 seconds to fire when I turn the key, and then after it's started the engine management light is on, but then if I just turn it off and then start it again, it starts fine and doesn't have the engine management light.

I gave it a full service at the garage but the problem is still there and the mechanic things it could be the crankshaft sensor or loose chain, but he won't guarantee anything and says the problem could still be there after fitting a new one.

Any ideas?

Change the crank sensor as they are not expensive and can play up, is there a fault code stored, i did my nephews car and the earth to the ecu was not very good, so ran an earth direct from the battery to the ecu and started first time.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the mechanic said this 'could' be the problem but after spending £100 for parts and labour he wouldn't guarantee it would be fixed. I suppose I will give that a shot then :)
