2001 Suzuki Jimny auto gearbox

The D light on the dash sometimes does not eliminate which causes the car to not select drive.
Sometimes it eliminates when cold and then goes off when warm.
I have fitted another box but no difference.
I have checked the bulbs and all good.
Gearbox specialist won’t touch us as cannot get parts but I think it’s electrical??
I have now booked it in with Suzuki but they have never heard of this problem when discussing over the phone.
Can anyone help??

I think I will take an old school mechanic in the know, as the new technician seems to rely solely on a plug in box.

Worth a try .The " plug in box " would be a scanner that would find fault codes if capable of checking all system /modules but may not have had that capability .
