ive been told the head gaskets gone on a car i may buy, it starts and runs with a bit of smoke am i right in saying if the head was gone or warped it would not move atall

No, car can still run with knackered head / gasket . Though usually with plenty of problems like white smoke etc. etc .

if the head gasket has gone then walk away from car unless you like spending lots of money
