Renault Kadjar
renault kadjar headlights control appears to be inverted
Car: Renault Kadjar Variant: Petrol Model Year: 2019
Categories:
Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
The headlights on my Renault Kadjar are ON when the should be OFF and OFF when the should be ON. The rear lights behave as expected, as do the front fog lights, and the instrument panel lights dim as expected (i.e. when the headlight are supposed to be ON).
The behaviour is the same when the lights are controlled manually by the light stalk, or when the lights are auto controlled (light stalk set to "auto").

Have you just got the vehicle ? , if not were they doing this before and just started this ?

Hi whittingehame,
We've had the vehicle for over a year and it just started doing it a couple of days ago. Before that, they were behaving as expected and nothing out of the ordinary happened beforehand.

Are the DRL operating as they should or is this what you are seeing on ?

You may need it scanned for fault codes .Possibly a faulty BCM or auto headlamp sensor fault .

Now you mention it…when the lights are set to OFF, the DRL lights get brighter - I thought that was the dipped headlights coming on (doh!!).
So, now I’ve checked again, the dipped headlights never turn on, whatever the settings (but the DRLs get brighter when the lights are set to OFF). All the other lights behave as expected and the full beams turn on too.

Odd that it’s both dipped headlamps though and they both stopped working at the same time.

Could check the various fuse boxes to see if any fuse for dipped lights
Thank you - I will do. Thanks very much indeed for your help!

Thinking about this and I've had some owners over the years who had one bulb fail on headlamps and didn't really notice . It was only when the other bulb failed and they had no dipped headlights they became aware of fault . Could maybe check bulbs just to eliminate that possibility

Yes, it could well be that they've failed in quick succession, but we didn't notice the first one go. I tried checking the headlamp fuse(s), but can't seem to find the fuse listed on any of the three fuse boxes.
It's booked into a garage tomorrow, but you've put my mind at rest now I've realised the headlamps are just not working (was worried it was going to be something like the BCM needing replacing when I thought the headlamps were coming on when they should have been off)

Hope it's relatively minor and a simple fix .

Hi, did you get to the bottom of this issue? I'm having the same problem

Been no update so far .

Hi. It turned out (embarrassingly enough) that both headlamps had gone. Somehow, we hadn’t noticed the first one had gone until both had gone. A simple replacement of the bulbs did the trick

Ah I'm glad you got it sorted, thank you for the update it's appreciated. I've been searching for help but haven't found much, thanks again

Thank you for updating the forum and it was as I suggested the two bulbs failing . Not an uncommon occurrence as many think when one first goes unnoticed
