garage says g p s pressure sensor
main dealer parts says ,they have never sold on, it won't be that

One of the symptoms of faulty g p s pressure sensor is reduced fuel economy. If your garage got a fault code for that I would trust them before a parts guy . But your choice , verify that it was scanned and not a guess .
