The tank is about quarter full, but the warning lights are showing as reserve fuel and empty. Does this indicate some sort of sensor or sender problem? The car is still running but worried it will send messages to the engine to cut fuel and car will stop running?

Probably fuel tank unit / sender inaccurate . .You can try filling the tank , sometimes works .
