Red warning light coming on engine temperature to high water ok smell petrol on oil dip stick

Now and again for a few seconds the red engine temperature warning light comes on and the temperature gauge shoots to the top for a second then drops back I smell petrol on the oil dip stick ( not too strongly ) water is ok no fans coming on but when checking the dip stick there seems to be to much oil way above the top mark but I have not put oil in for 4 months it was ok before

Looks like head / head gasket gone .Carry out a block test to confirm or not . Coolant will be getting into the sump , raising the level and needs draining off
