Steering problem perhaps?

Intermittent screeching noise when car is on the move. Sound is not constant and tends to lessen when engine warms up. Does not appear to be directly related to wheels, though does stop when car stops. Occurs even when the steering is not being turned.

Is the noise coming from the engine ? if so could be belt , tensioner or alternator .Really need to try and identify where noise is coming from .Does it stop if brake lightly applied ? more info the better .
