Check all connections and wiring at starter motor / solenoid . Also check earth wire at engine/ gearbox to body .

your starter motor is probably faulty.

I would check wiring at starter motor and gearbox to body.
I have also had issues with the battery terminals clean them and put back on if they are lead ones make sure they have not split and they fasten well to battery terminals. If all checks out good my next step would be to test starter motor for fault.

the starter is at the front of the engine as you look at it.

hi,i got the starter off.was not all that bad.is there any way i can check it or a garage.dont want to be forking out if its not that.thanks again.

take it to a garage and get it tested!
Answered Dec 11, 2011 (12 years ago)
you can test it with your jump leads.
earth is on outside of start motor case.
live is where you took the live battery lead from solenoid.

You will need a small jumper from live jump lead to solenoid live. Before you do this make sure start is held down as it will jump about. I good heavy foot on motor case will do the job, but keep clear of starters moving parts at nose cone end.

if your starter is failing under load this test will probably not show any faults it will just show you that the starter works ok, idealy you need to get a second oppinion from a garage, i would refit it and take it to your local and ask for a quick look, ie a listen, any garage worth its salt should do this free and be able to make a dianosis from there.

alright lads.checked the starter.the solenoid works on its own.and so does the starter motor spin itself.but not together.guessins i would need to cross them before that would happen.going put it back together when its daylight, nip round to my local garage the morn, see what there saying.another quick thing,is it easy enough to get rid of an airbubble out of the inlet fuel pipe.thanks again.might be a mechanic by the end of the week haha.thanks again.

i wouldnt be too concerned with an air bubble, in the fuel line, its not unusual to see them now and again
