Touch Screen

2016 Peugeot 308 SW diesel
Car: Peugeot 308
Year: 2016
Variant: SW diesel
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Whilst driving the touch screen has just started switching itself off, 10sec, then back on again. This can happen every 5 to15mins. All systems are affected.
As an addition the right hand speaker sometimes cuts out and comes back if volume is increased.

This seems to be a daily problem on Peugeot and Citroens with this fault on here . Check with dealership if any software updates to rectify this fault . If not that , load test battery to check condition .

Thank you Whittingeham.

I will get the battery checked first as the car no longer goes into stop/start mode and have heard that low battery causes that although I always switched it off in the past.

The fact that the start / stop is inactive is a further sign that that battery is possibly low . By the way I detest stop / start and it is the first thing I switch off on getting a new car .

Battery was 4yrs old registering 500amps, not 700 so low although the voltage was still 12.7v. Replacement cured stop/start issue.
Looks like a software fault on the electronics.

Thanks for updating the forum , at least one problem solved . Hopefully the screen issue is a simple fix .

I have a 2016 petrol 308 and have exactly the same problem which started around a week or so ago. After a few minutes the display/radio goes off and then comes back around 15 seconds later. This pattern repeats constantly. Stop/start has always been temperamental as most use is very local and the battery needs to be well charged for it to work . To check if the battery was the issue it has been fully recharged and stop/start is now perfect. However, it has not resolved the display/radio problem.

Had the same issue, just been quoted over £1200 for a new SMEG unit. The dealer said it’s usually fixed with a software update but they can’t do it while the screen is cutting out. Supposedly “a diode inside is broken”, I’ve got a 308 66 plate 1.6 blue HDI

Thanks Dan, yes same car and year with identical problem so will contact main dealer. This is a bit of a con if this unit is so unreliable on a 4 yr old car.

I've had the same screen off/on on a 2016 308SW 1.2 puretech petrol. Not fixed yet but oddly the screen is fine if the radio is in FM mode, and only goes off/on (a circa 2min 30sec to 3min cycle) if in DAB mode.
Just a hunch that the screen, the stop start intermittency, and an occasional engine erratic idle, is all down to the car/engine management software reacting to slightly less than normal voltage/charge. The Peugeot electronic management system seems to be deviously clever, shuts off functions/alters what works or doesnt (way before any error codes are thrown up) in reaction to less than usual voltage/current. I plan to have my new battery (a top spec AGM model) charge level and the alternator charge checked to be sure.

Problem fixed by a software update, £120, at Citroen/Peugeot main dealer. I was informed that this is a common problem on Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall and Ford. Bug in the software?.

I had a similar problem with the infotainment system on the 2016 308 2.0L BlueHDi GT Line I bought last June. The sat-nav and radio would shut down and reboot intermittently on the journey home. When contacted, the dealer I bought the car from paid for my local Peugeot garage to update the system in the hope of curing the fault, but it didn't.
However, I have discovered that not having my iPhone connected to the system allows the touch screen to stay switched on even on long journeys.
From this, I conclude that Peugeot's operating system has not kept pace with current smartphones.
