2004 Peugeot 206 battery light on

Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.4 Petrol
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
My battery light came on while driving down motorway, I instantly thought it must be a problem with the alternator. I managed to drive about 50 miles home, although the battery was pretty much flat when I got home. Took car to garage, they tested the charge on the battery and said the alternater needs replacing. I'm not sure whether to trust them and just pay out for a new one. The reason being, I had a new alternater 18 months ago and although I've probably done about 30,000 miles since then, it seems a bit soon. Also, it had a service 3 weeks ago and one of the things noted was that the drive belt had a split. Could it be this that is the problem? Or something else? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Check the drive belt hasn't snapped before you take car into garage.

If , as you say , the garage have tested the alternator output and it's not charging , it's either got to be a faulty alternator again or a wiring / connection fault .

if it is your alternator check with your previous garage that fitted the last one as it could still have a warrenty on it if only 18months ago
