2001 Peugeot 206 fan not switching off constantly blowing

Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2001
Variant: 1.9 diesel
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I have a peugeot 206 1.9 diesel.. the fan in the car is not working, when I start the car I am almost blown away, I can't turn it down or switch it off, it is just constantly blowing. Does anyone know what caused that to happen, I have been quoted about £200 to get it fixed!! which seems to be a lot to me, any ideas to try and save money would be great..
thanks, look forward to any and all replies..
