2000 Peugeot 206 rough running engine no power and smell of petrol

Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2000
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
for a while now the car would judder for a few yards then cut out especially at motorway speeds. sometimes when it started again it would have no power and run really rough. we had it to the garage on a number of occations but nothing has ever been found. However yesterday it did it again and my girlfriend struggled to get home. the engine running absolutely awful and rough sounding, no power and a smell of petrol/unburned fuel. i.ve got an idea it could be to do witn the cat and/or lambda sensors. but i can't find anywhere that talks about this. could you advise me please

First thing I would check is if it was running on all cyls and remove and check plugs .

check spark plugs as one could be loose if not that then try your timing belt or cam belt as it is more commenly know as it could have jumped a few teeth

Your " no power and a smell of petrol/unburned fuel. " will be caused if not firing on all cyls .
