2002 Peugeot 206 boot won't open

My boot won't open when I push the button, but when I turn my engine on, or maybe half way down the street when I'm driving my boot will then open, I've taken it to the garage and they have cleaned the sensors, but even they are scratching their heads! Any advice greatly appreciated has anyone experienced this before.

have you checked the wiring harness that passes from the body to the tailgate where it goes through rubber sleeve,could be broken,chafed through and shorting wires,also check the connector going to the boot lock motor is clean and secure
