2002 Peugeot 206 car losing power whilst driving

This is an intermittant fault that occurs about 3 times a year. I am driving along and when I put my foot on the clutch to change gear the revs drop so quickly that the car cuts out, engine management light comes on but then when you release the clutch the car jump starts and engine management light goes out again. Recently this happened without me putting my foot on the clutch driving along at 60mph the car pulled, engine management light came on and again when I put my foot on the clutch the same thing happens as above. Normally, if you pull over and let the car rest for a couple of minutes it stops - until the next time. Because the engine management light goes out, the garage say they cannot find a fault. Has anyone else experienced this or know what the problem is? It feels very unsafe to drive!

im not a mechanic but my mum experience the same sort of thing with her 206, and it turned out to be a fault with the air flow? have they had it on a diagnostics test?? hope this helps?

i've had the same problem. it happened to me shortly after driving through a rather deep puddle.
a few min of mid rev iddling, lots of steam out the exhaust and it was fine.. on servicing my car, i found the air filter and box are wet.
this would indeed choke the engine when you put your foot down.
simply replace the air filter ad see if you can find the scource of the damp or possobly a blockage.
on my 206 the air is taken in from just in front of the near side wheel arch. it then goes down into one small 'box' then up into the main chamber.
as i dammaged y inner wheel arch and removed it untill i get a new one, the inlet was exposed an i thinl this is where the water got in
