2000 Peugeot 206 engine making banging noise when parked with engine running

Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.1
Categories: Leaks & Noises
I have just bought my first car and dont know much about engines or how they run so any help is appreciated.

I was parked up after an hour or 2 drive and left the engine running when a loud and fast knocking noise came from the engine. i could feel it in the car so i turned off the engine. the noise continued for about 10-15 seconds after the engine was turned off. i looked under the bonnet and couldnt see any obvious problem such as snapped belt. the car started ok after and has run fine since but im worried that it will happen again. if anyone has ANY ideas i would appreciate it.

Possibly engine running hot and water (coolant )in header tank bubbling / banging before electric fan cut in ?

Forgot to say , check water level in header tank ( WHEN ENGINE COLD )

OK thanks for that, i will check it in the morning. I will obviously check the level when the engine is cold. There has been no more noises since Sunday so hopefully fine. Thanks again.

Its the radiator fan. its a self diagnosis so i dont know of its the bearings or the fan itself, but whenever the fan kicks in, it makes a horrible banging noise.

problem found and soon resolved.
