take the car back because it sounds to me like one of the selector rods has been put on the wrong ball joint have this corrected and should be ok otherwise it is going to cost you in the long run because as you say he dropped it and if there is any internal damage then they should be replacing the box for you as they dropped it not you so take the car back and tell them whats wrong and dont take no excuses from them as there all insured

thanks for the advice, i have bought another gear box, and this is the one fitted, i cant take it back as it was "the bloke down the road" but i can suggest to the next person to try this out, does the whole gear box need to be taken out just to check the gear selector?
