2000 Peugeot 206 5th/reverse gear not working - gear stick does not engage in these gears

Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.2 Diesel Manual
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
hi

i cant engage 5th and reverse gears on my peugeot 206. also the gearstick becomes really loose then i cant select any gears, the gearstick just moves around loosely.

i think its something to do with gear linkage. i had a look myself and i noticed that on one of the shorter linkage rods, the ball joint end had come off the ball, the other end was fine.

i was wondering if you could let me know whether i can just change that single linkage rod or do i have to replace the whole gear linkage system?

also how easy is it to change that linkage rod? do both ends of the rod just pop off or do i need special tools? how long does this task take?

can i use a second hand rod from the scrappy?

thank you for all your help

yes you can change the rods individually best to get a new one tho as a second hand one may be worn too just put a suitable sized spanner under the between the rod and the ball that it pushes onto then lever it off. the new one simply pushes on

had the same problem and just replaced them with new link rods available from stock at the dealers in most cases as far as i can remember they cost me about £20 to £25 easy to replace to
