Common Peugeot Idle speed problems

The Peugeot 106, 206, 306 & 406 with the 1.4/1.6.1.8 litre engines have a very common problem with stalling at traffic lights and eratick idle speed. This is usauly always caused by the ignition coil pack going high voltage and dammaging the sensitive electronics inside the engine control unit (ECU)

The original Sagem coil-pack should be changed for the Bujicord coil pack this is a revision made by Peugeot in an attempt to resolve the voltage spike problem. Normally the coil -pack will always damage the ECU

Symptoms include:
Misfiring
Poor idle speed or stalling
Hesitations during acceleration

We are now supplying the Marreli update units, these units now replace the Sagem SL96-9 and prevent the fault ever re-occuring.

Replacement ECU with 2 Year unlimited mileage warranty £185
These units are available from stock now.

thanks for that legend. Someone told me it could also be the ICV? whatever that is.

I originally took it to a peugeot garage 4 weeks ago when problem was intermittent and the engine light came on. They told me that the fault was showing as downward flow oxy sensor but my exhaust was leaking so would probably fix the problem if I had it changed as the sensors rarely went. They also told me the head gasket needed changing (£550)

I changed the exhaust and went to a local garage to ask about the head gasket. They told me that it didn't need changing.

The erratic idling doesn't happen all the time but has got gradually worse over the last few months. The car was also serviced app 7 weeks ago.

Try changing the IDLE AIR VALVE (STEPPER MOTOR).TRY EBAY THERE ABOUT £35 They control the idle speed of your car.yours sounds faulty due to eratic idling.

I"ve been haveing the same problem on my 206, 1,4, 8V -2004, and I am absolutely exhausted by it. Plus a sudden power loss which I'll refer to further on.The local Peugeot dealer can"t give me a solution, I, ve changed the ICV(marelli, just as the original) and the upstream O2 sensor(MEAt and Doria- only one the dealer could provide on short notice). I "ve read and tried to read and interpret the fuel trim, that lead me to meke some measurements and that resulted in me changing the MAP sensor. That seems to have had a slight effect on part of the problem, becouse it seemd to have resolved the power loss/cutting off(it also used to cut and/or lack power when accelerating in second gear, after slowing down at intersections and roundabouts, very often). For two months this did not occur it all(after changing the MAP sensor) and three weeks ago it did twice in a week, but newer since then. I shoul mention that this power loss problem seemd to occur more often at weather changes, especialy when the air pressure dropped.(that is what lead me look for an airflow problem to begin with). If the power loss situations were somewhat improved by the MAP sensor or O2 sensor(allthough I think it was the MAP sensor that improved a little this situation), nothing seems to work for the rough idle.
ALSO, LATELY, WHEN WHEN NOT IN GEAR, IF I KEEP IT AROUND 2000 RPM, WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM(85-89 C) FOR EXACTLY A MINUTE INTAKE MISSFIRING IS HEARD(ONE EVRY 3-4 SECONDS - THE INTAXE POPS JUST LIKE POP CORN, NOT LOUD BUT CLEAR).
Also, prior to changing O2 and MAP sensors, and ICV, i had changed the plugs at the dealership with factory ones and tried on a brand new coil pack for about 15 minutes, but the idle was still rough, and I could also hear the intake pop when the abowe -mentioned conditions were met.(rpm, etc).
SEEING THE SUGGESTION HERE, I THOUGHT THAT IT COULD STILL BE THE COIL PACK(A SAGEM ORIGINAL-WITH THE CONDENSATOR(THE CONDENSATOR IS NOW BROKEN BUT THE ENGINE ACTED THE SAME WHEN IT WAS NOT). MABE THE ONE I tried was not updated or debbugged, sort of speack, i do"t know. Although the suggestion has been posted some time ago, please would you be so kind to tell me if you still sell that Marelli or Bougicord coilpack?
