Auto doesn't change gear as expected?

2000 Peugeot 206 1.4 Auto
Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.4 Auto
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi,

Last post i promise!

Can someone help me please - my 206 is an auto and drives fine and with no problems 90% of the time. The main exception to this rule is when i'm going up a hill and the car suddenly doesn't want to change gear. The result of this is me crawling up hills at 30mph (top speed, usually more like 20mph) and unable to move any quicker.

Is there a way to prompt the engine to change gear or is this a more sinister problem?

I've posted 2 other questions and i don't know if it has anything to do with either of them. One is the air conditioning rattle but the other is the S and Ice lights flashing on the dashboard at times - could it be something to do with that?

Apologies if this is a daft question - first time driver and first car so this is all really new to me.

Thanks in advance

Jen

Depending on the type of gearbox, you can change manually with either the 3,2,1 or +/- to get up the hills in the mean time. It may be that the kickdown cable isn't tight and therefore reluctant to change down
