2000 Peugeot 206 flashing s and ice lights

After driving the car for a few minutes it clanks and goes into a safety mode flashing s and ice lights. It will only go away if you reset the car and once the gearbox warms up it doesnt happen. We have changed the gearbox oil and had the oil wear counter reset, but the problem still happens. I have read that changing the gearbox does not clear the problem. Any ideas?
