It sounds a s if it is not firing on all cylinders . Could be many things , plug , plug leads ( if fitted on that year ) or coil pack , again if fitted , injector etc . Need to start with easiest thing first and pull plugs and examine for signs of not firing , replace as needed .

It started great today, but then suddenly Peugeot 206 1.4 started rough running and fuel smell again
