Car just lost power and cut out plus wont start

hi there! i hope someone can help me? i was driving in town then my car lost power and the engine just died., i tried to start it but it wont start,it turns over but when i turn it over the window wipers come on of there own accord and the stop light on my dash! i no it has petrol in, i never hit a bump in the road nor had the car shown any signs of ill health before this! please help?? cheers
