Lost key, had new key cut to code, works in the door and petrol cap but not in the ignition.

Original key has a chip in it that's read by the sensor ring around the ignition barrel.
so either get a key with a chip to match or you could just tape your old key to the sensor ring so it's always activated.
Then you can use your new key to unlock/start.
