2004 Peugeot 206 engine noise....cambelt too tight?

Car: Peugeot 206
Year: 2004
Variant: sw quicksilver
Categories: Gearbox & Clutch
when driving and the car is in gear, if i take my foot off the accelerator and no other pedals are pressed, there is a noticable clicking noise that seems to come from the engine. i have read that the cambelt could be too tight as it would give a wighning type sound.

any ideas?

If the timing belt has recently been replaced , check it .If it was that you should hear it at idle .Could be tappet noise .

if i put the clutch in the noise goes. im guessing its a clutch problem as the noise isnt there when its idling.

do you agree?

More likely to be layshaft /primary gear bearings .
